Mr. Martin was raised in Murray, Utah and now lives in Orem. He graduated from BYU in 1976 with a degree in Child Development and a minor in Spanish. He then received a Master's Degree in Family Life Education and Marriage and Family Therapy. He continued his education and earned his teaching credential and taught Spanish, vocational classes, English, Utah History and Student Government classes at Dixon Middle School in Provo. After 10 years in the classroom, he went back to school for a second Master's Degree in education and became an assistant principal at Orem Jr. High School. In 1996, he was assigned to Sego Lily Elementary where he worked for 8 years. He was asked to open Saratoga Shores in 2004 and is proud to be a Shark! Mr.Martin is married to Carol Martin, a veteran nurse in the Utah Valley Hospital operating room. He has children ages 34-20. He has 4 nurse daughters and one more studying at BYU Idaho to become a nurse. One son graduated in construction management and lives in California and his brother is a construction management student at UVU. A sixth daughter graduated as a graphic design artist. Mr. Martin has four grandchildren who live in Oregon and a new granddaughter will join the family in September of 2008. Mr. Martin has been teaching for the past 39 years. While in high school, Mr. Martin taught accordion at a music conservatory in Salt Lake. During his first year in college he traveled with the Young Ambassadors as a singer/dancer. He then lived in Peru for two years as a missionary. After his mission, he taught Spanish at the MTC for 1 1/2 years. He taught in the Child Development and Family Relations Department at BYU for four years. He has many years in working with children of all ages. His favorite saying is, “Martin’s my name and teaching’s my game!” |
